On May 8th, the dedicated Mauritian and author Natasha Rosick Ruman launched her debut book, Heart & Hospitality: Stories of Growth, Challenges, and Success from the Heart of Hotels, at Les Palétuviers, Anse La Raie — an eco-friendly space fitting the peace of mind and heart behind the book. The event brought together government officials, hospitality professionals, educators, families, friends, and students for a deeply emotional celebration of resilience, leadership, and service — and to honour the belief that people in this industry deserve to be seen, valued, and heard. Hospitality is not just service — it’s a transaction made possible by passionate people.
Natasha, who currently lives in Prague, has worked across Mauritius, the Middle East, and Europe. Her journey into hospitality began as a young woman raised by her grandparents and sister, while her mother worked abroad to support them. "There were times in my childhood that weren’t easy," she shared during her heartfelt speech. "But I chose to turn pain into purpose — as a way to thank my mother for sacrificing so much so that her children could grow into strong, brilliant humans."
Heart & Hospitality is a collection of real stories and reflections from Natasha’s career in hotels — a book that goes beyond service checklists to reveal the emotional truths of the industry. From recovering guests’ lost wallets in Abu Dhabi to leading a Czech team as a woman of colour, Natasha brings a voice that is often missing in hospitality literature.
“This book is not just for professionals,” she says. “It’s for students, quiet leaders, and anyone who has ever worked in service and wondered if their story mattered.”
One of the most touching moments of the launch came when Natasha spoke about the unwavering support of her longtime mentor, Mr. Yash Ramjing, her Travel & Tourism teacher. Just a day before the event, they debated whether to cancel due to heavy rain. But Natasha insisted on staying the course — and the next morning, the sun came out. “It was a blessing in disguise,” she said. Mr. Ramjing stood by Natasha through rejections, unanswered emails, and difficult logistics. His role was more than that of a teacher — he was a mentor, a coach, a guide, and a deeply human presence.
Natasha also credits her husband, Adam, for encouraging her throughout the writing process. “He read every raw draft, teased me with love, but always believed in me.” She adds, “He looked after our son so I could succeed.” She also gives thanks to her best friend David, who helped her refine invitations, banners, and rephrase key texts with care. “I am truly blessed — to have the right people, at the right time, in my life.”
Now, she hopes the book reaches far beyond the event. “I want young Mauritians — especially girls, and even internationally — to see that you don’t need the perfect background to build a meaningful career. You can lead with heart and still be strong.”
Heart & Hospitality is available at Whimzical bookstore in Mauritius, Pointe aux Cannoniers and Online Portal Supreme Bookstore and educational institutions across Mauritius by direct request through her educator, Mr. Yash Ramjing.
For Natasha, the launch isn’t the end — it’s just the beginning.
“This book carries many voices. Mine is just one of them. And I’ll keep sharing it — wherever I go.”
Warm regards,
